Hibs defenseman Ryan Porteous called ‘ax man’ after red card against Rangers
HIBS defender Ryan Porteous has been called a “Hatchet man” by former Celtic star Kris Commons
Leading by a nil goal thanks to a header from Kevin Nisbet in the eighth minute, Porteous was on trial for flying dangerously high in a tackle with Joe Aribo, prompting referee Nick Walsh to wave a red card in the 29th minute.
The goals of Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos in the second half ensured the victory of the Gers while the 10 men of Jack Ross could not hold out at Ibrox.
The Scottish football specialist has spoken after the 22-year-old was sent off in his side’s 2-1 loss to Ibrox yesterday.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: “So what about Ryan Porteous after his last red card against Rangers?
“He went to Borna Barisic in a game two years ago and was rightly sacked.
“Yesterday, it was Joe Aribo who received another ridiculous challenge from the young Hibs center-back.
“I don’t think there was a lot of contact.
“But it was reckless of Porteous the way he rushed over the ball.
“When you lead 1-0 away at Ibrox, you want your team to show a bit of poise and maturity.
“But Porteous’ naivety cost his team any chance of victory.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of reckless stupidity from him.
“He gave the referee a decision to make.
“And when you’ve established a reputation as a hothead, there’s only one way to end it.
“Not so much the hard man as the ax man.”
