Veteran theater personality and former publicist Gerson da Cunha dies


Veteran theater personality and former publicist Gerson da Cunha died on Friday January 7 in Mumbai.

“I’m so sorry to hear + confirm that Gerson da Cunha has passed away, thus opening the last curtain on an entire (glorious) era for his beloved Bombay,” writer and photographer Vivek Menezes wrote on Twitter.

A veteran theater personality, Gerson da Cunha has appeared in numerous plays and films such as Electric Moon (1992), Cotton Mary (1999), Asoka (2001) and Water (2005), among others.

He had a science degree from the University of Bombay. De Cunha worked as a journalist for five years at the Press Trust of India-Reuters. He spent 25 years at Lintas and Hindustan Lever before working with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Latin America and New York.

He has acted in an honorary capacity as an advisor in various trade union ministries and in national technology missions under the Cabinet secretariat. He was also the Managing Director of Bombay First.

Condolences started pouring in on social media for the “Mumbaikar model”.
